Welcome to the Universe of...
Much ink and many drinks have been spilled attempting to describe the music of Action Plus. (For examples, please see press coverage.) From the bonehead silliness of "Woo Woo Woo Woo Woo Woo Woo Woo (The Car Alarm Song)" to the suicidal white-trash roadtrip music of "Nonstop to Nowhere" to the Morricone-in-Turkey film music of "Zazelle," Action Plus has done its best to confuse listeners everywhere.
Guitarist Joe Gore and vocalist/keyboardist Ursula Blind started Action Plus in 1996 with the participation of vocalist/ percussionist/ Theremin manipulator Sally Dana, bassist/guitarist Cynthia Smith and drummer Pat Campbell. In a series of memorable live performances and two 12-song CDs, Action Plus scraped the bottom of the pop-culture barrel in search of mutant riffs, fast getaways, and occasional moments of beauty.
But in late 1998, tragedy struck. As the band unloaded their gear after a gig, an overzealous security guard accidentally locked them inside their 5'x5' storage unit. The band remained in storage until early 2003, when the facility was demolished to make way for an expanded Happy Donuts parking lot. Crawling from the wreckage, the surviving members of Action Plus vowed to reclaim their lofty position in the hierarchy of pop music.
Action Plus has been called "the twisted kin of Josie and the Pussycats," "surf-goth," and even "cinematic," but the band prefers the traditional reaction of "you guys are really sick."
